Ornamental Steel
Heaviest feel and most rigid. Powder-coated steel holds up in our dry air, but a scratch through the coating is where rust starts, so we touch up any marks from installation before we leave.

When you want a fence that secures the yard without hiding the house, ornamental metal is the answer. Most of what people call wrought iron today is welded steel or aluminum panels made to look like it, and that's what we install across Lubbock: front yards, side yards, courtyards and the fronts of brick homes in older neighborhoods.

Heaviest feel and most rigid. Powder-coated steel holds up in our dry air, but a scratch through the coating is where rust starts, so we touch up any marks from installation before we leave.

Lighter, won't rust, and easier to rack up and down a slope. It flexes more than steel, so we use it where looks and low upkeep matter more than brute strength.

Spear tops discourage climbing. Flat tops read cleaner on modern homes. Puppy-picket panels add extra pickets in the bottom section so small dogs can't squeeze through.
Common on Lubbock's brick homes and at subdivision entries. We set steel infill panels between masonry columns and match a walk gate to the run.
A lot of ornamental fence goes in front of the house, and that's exactly where Lubbock's height rule bites. Inside the required front setback, a residential fence can be no taller than 48 inches. On a corner lot, nothing may sit in the right-of-way or the 25-foot vision clearance triangle at the intersection. Apartment communities get one exception: a 6-foot ornamental metal fence may extend into the front or side street setback if it's less than 50 percent opaque.
Texas Property Code §202.023 has kept HOAs from banning a perimeter fence since 2021, but associations may still regulate fence type. Since September 1, 2025, they may also bar fencing in front of the home's front-most building line if the covenants provide for it. If your covenants say "no front-yard fence," a front iron fence may be off the table even though a backyard one isn't. We look at the covenants with you before ordering panels.
HomeGuide's 2026 guides list wrought iron at $50 to $85 per linear foot installed for 4- to 6-foot fence and aluminum at $25 to $75 per linear foot. National ranges, not our quote.
