Galvanized Chain Link
The standard silver fence. Good for back lines, gardens and utility areas where looks come second.
Lubbock, Texas · South Plains
Chain link is still the fastest, toughest way to fence a big Lubbock backyard, a garden or a side yard on a budget. It doesn't need stain, it lets wind straight through, and a well-stretched run stays tight for years. It's an approved residential fence material in the City of Lubbock, though not in every town around it.

Black coating on the wire, posts and rails makes the fence fade into the yard. It's the version we'd pick for anything visible from the house.

Slats woven into the mesh add screening. Be aware that slats turn an open fence into a partly solid one, so they change the wind load, and posts should be sized for it.
Single walk gates for mowers and double drive gates for trailers, hung on heavier gate posts than the line.
ASTM F567 is the industry practice for installing chain link fence: post setting, bracing, rails, tension wire, fabric and gates. Most of the strength sits at the terminal posts, the corners, ends and gate posts, because they carry the stretch of the whole run. We set those deeper and brace them. In caliche, that can mean drilling instead of digging. Bottom tension wire keeps the mesh from curling up after wind has scoured the soil along the line.
Inside Lubbock city limits, chainlink is on the approved list for homes. In Wolfforth, it's the opposite: the City of Wolfforth's zoning code lists chainlink among prohibited residential fence materials unless the fence is tied to permitted livestock. If your address is in Wolfforth, see our Wolfforth fence page. On commercial lots in Lubbock, chain link is limited too; industrial districts are the exception, covered on our commercial and security fence page.
HomeGuide puts chain link at $10 to $40 per linear foot installed nationally. Height, coating, slats and gates move the number; your quote lists each.
