Fence Company Wolfforth TX - Privacy, Iron & Gates

Wolfforth isn't just a Lubbock suburb with its own ZIP code. It has its own fence code, and on a few points it's stricter than Lubbock's. We build cedar, metal-frame and ornamental fence and gates for Wolfforth homes and acreage. Every Wolfforth job starts with the City of Wolfforth's rules, not Lubbock's.

A Town That's Adding Backyards Fast

The Handbook of Texas places Wolfforth on U.S. 62/82 and Farm Road 179, southwest of Lubbock. It was founded in 1916 near the Spade Ranch, and its school merged with three rural districts in 1935 to form Frenship. The Census Bureau counted 5,541 residents in its 2020 base and estimates 8,746 for 2025. That's roughly 58 percent growth in five years, and a lot of new homes with bare backyards.

Wolfforth's Fence Rules (Zoning Code §14.05.009)

6 ft cedar privacy fence beside a brick home, Wolfforth, TX

Height

No part of a fence in a residential district can exceed 8 feet. A substantially open fence, one that's no more than 1 part solid to 4 parts open, can go to 10 feet. In a required front yard, the limit is 4 feet. In Lubbock, by comparison, a solid residential fence can reach 10 feet outside the front setback, so an 8-foot cap is the first thing that trips up people who've built in Lubbock before.

Corner Lots

On a corner lot, nothing within 30 feet of the intersection of the two street property lines can be taller than 3 feet. That's measured from the top of the curb, or 3½ feet above the center of the pavement where there's no raised curb (§14.05.010).

Materials: Close to Lubbock's List, With Two Big Differences

Wolfforth's approved and prohibited materials read a lot like Lubbock's. Cedar, whitewood, ornamental metal, composite, vinyl and masonry are all fine, and pipe rail is limited to parcels of an acre or more. Two lines change what we build, though. First, sheet or corrugated metal needs metal posts, brackets and caps, and the code adds "no galvanized metal." Second, chainlink is on the prohibited list for residential fences not tied to permitted livestock. Chain link is an approved material for a home in Lubbock, so this is the rule people moving out from town miss.

What That Means for Your Wolfforth Fence

Cedar on Steel Posts

The most common fence we'd build here: 6 feet tall, comfortably under the 8-foot cap, on steel posts. See cedar privacy fence.

Metal Panel Fence, Painted

Because the code rules out galvanized sheet metal, an R-panel fence in Wolfforth should use painted or coated panels. See R-panel fence.

Dog Runs Without Chain Link

For a dog yard on a residential lot, we use welded-wire or ornamental puppy-picket panels instead of chain link. See dog fence.

Permits and HOA Review

The City of Wolfforth's permitting guidelines say a permit is required before constructing, altering or repairing a structure or any component of one, and that applications are accepted only online through the City's public portal. The City notes that some neighborhoods require proof of architectural review approval before a construction permit can be issued. Since October 1, 2024, Wolfforth has enforced the 2021 International Residential Code. We confirm with the Building Permit Department whether your specific fence needs a permit, and we get HOA approval in writing first.

Under Texas Property Code §202.023, an HOA has been unable to ban a perimeter fence since 2021. Since September 1, 2025, it may still limit fence type, keep fences off sidewalks and drainage easements, require a 10-foot setback for driveway gates on laned roads, and, if the covenants say so, bar fencing in front of the house's front-most building line.

Ground Under Wolfforth

USDA's soil map puts the center of Wolfforth on Acuff loam, the same soil series whose official description shows a hard caliche-plugged layer from about 38 to 58 inches down. We drill post holes when we hit it and set every post in concrete.
